Winter Menu Changes…HAPPY DAYS

2011 November 30
by davidleepollack

Now, at the start of December, maybe winter weather is around the corner?  Maybe fall weather is finally around the corner?

WINE

We have upgraded our wine list with two new reds that trump anything we’ve ever offered, in my opinion.   Considering what’s in the glass, these are at very reasonable prices as well.

9/35, Tamarack Cellars Firehouse Red ’09.  Too many varietals to list here.   This elegant wine from Washington state is full-bodied with evident but subdued oak.

10/40, Forefront Cabernet ’09.  A true Napa cab with great structure, depth and complexity.  Round and rich.  We are so excited for this one.

We’ve also brought back our Mulled Wine…a holiday and winter favorite!

FOOD

On the food side we have brought back Diamond Chili.  It’s the only food item we make ourselves and we’re damn proud of it.  This year we are using 100% ground beef from the Meathook!

HAPPY  HOUR PAIRINGS

Every week we have happy hour pairings of beer and cheese or beer and meat….usually around $4.  We have just started offering wine pairings as well.  Stop by to see what’s on offer this week.

Rothtoberfest is Nigh (Sunday, 10/9)

2011 September 30
by davidleepollack

We will be partying in the backyard from 3-9pm next Sunday in honor of David Lee Roth’s birthday and the Oktoberfest season.  Here’s why you want to be here.

1. One free draft beer for anyone wearing a long blond wig or lederhosen

2. Chris and Kyle’s Slammin’ Bratwurst Plates

The boys are hard at work on a delicious bacon-filled German potato salad to accompany the beer-soaked, grilled Bratwurst.  This plate will be sold to you for just $5!  Or if you are really on a shoestring, you can just get the bratwurst on a stick for $3.

3. Weissenhoe & Monchsambacher Gravity Kegs

These two fine fest beers are to be served on gravity which means we pound a spigot into the side and serve the beer as you might see in a Bugs Bunny cartoon.  Direct from Franconia and outta sight!

4.  DJ’s Frau Baby Mama & Whatdoyouthinktheteachersgonnalooklikethisyear

Have you ever seen a very pregnant, beautiful young woman spinning classic German drinking tunes in full Frau regalia?  To miss Mary Brockman, our neighbor at Kill Devil Hill, would be a shame.  But if you care to rock out with Van Halen emphasis, look no further than her partner, DJ Whatdoyouthinktheteachersgonnalooklikethisyear who will be alternating the kraut with some Southern California pride….

5.  Van Halen-Themed Pumpkin Carving Contest

Buy your pumpkins right here at the bar, find a stool and get to work.  We will award a prize at 7pm to the pumpkin that most successfully calls to mind Mr. Roth’s flying circus.

We’ve got that yard in shape with new greenery, beautiful flowers and, of course, the ivy is back climbing across our walls.   Eat & drink your way to glory this spring!

6:30-8:30 Thursdays, Grilling Out EVERY WEEK

We are grilling up bratwursts in our backyard and they are delicious.  $5 for a big ol’ Pork King bratwurst with Dusseldorf mustard.

While you are here, check out quoits if you’ve got the nerve.  Let Kyle and I show you how to play.  If you’ve been frustrated by this game, don’t worry, it just takes a few minutes to get the right toss.  This is the predecessor to horseshoes…the original game for playaz.

$300 being sent to Tsunami Victims, straight from you

So, on 5/5 we made our weekly cookout into a fundraiser.  Rusty Ralston grilled up his Sega Bodega Dogs and we had a little help from the folks at Brooklyn Brine.  Thanks to these guys, the Diamond, and your patronage, $300 was raised and given to Americares Tsunami Fund.  Thanks!

Yard Friendly Beverages

Schneider Weisse and Southern Tier Hop Sun will be on draft in the next 10 days or so.  There they will remain for the bulk of the summer.  Woohoo!  We got an awesome Hungarian Roze wine coming later this week and a lovely New Zealand Pinot by the bottle as well.
